Usually I don't fall for memoirs or really personal stories. The Heights by Peter Hedges is exactly that. I have no idea what got me to fall in love with this book, the fact that its all taking place in my neighborhood, Brooklyn Heights, the flashy bold title, or just the way the book is written. This book is about a a married couple. Kate and Tim Welch, they live in Brooklyn Heights and Tim was a History Teacher in Montague Academy, until he desides to take a year off, to have some family bonding time, and let Kate get a job. At the same time, a multi-millionaire, Anna Brody, buys a 3 million dollar townhouse, all thanks to Kate.
I like the way this book is written, the way its organized. Its a book with multiple character perspectives. Usually three (consisting Tim, Kate, and usually a character that had a big impact in the last scene). This book has a really nice flow. Every time I read the book, I feel like I am in the scene. I am in the moment. The personality of Tim and Kate, really sit well with me. Even though I am a reading a book about adults, I feel like I can somehow, somewhere, connect to them; and also have a laugh here and there.
The book is really easy going, but yet serious which some books fail to do. It really gets to the point, it doesn't play around the main idea or cause like some books. This book doesn't require so much deep thinking, which I like. It makes me feel like I am aware of whats going on in the story, there are no misleading moments in the book (so far) and I like it.
Personally, I feel like anyone who likes reading adventurous, life stories, should read this book. So far, this book hasn't let me down.
I like the way you talked about HOW the book was written rather then just summarizing it. Nice work!
ReplyDeletei liked how you menionted how you like the book for how it was written :D unique
ReplyDeleteI like how you made this blog post different then your others because this one is talking about the style of writting and how it was written rather than exactly what it was about. Good job.
