So for the Artist assignment, I chose Andy Warhol. He was a Slovakian/ American pop artist. He loved celebrities, and Hollywood and all those fancy people that would be on Tv and Loved by people all around the world. He grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania around 1940's and he also went to CIT to study art, and then eventually lived and worked/ created most of his art in a studio in NYC.
Many people have seen this print or art before, or something very similar to it, but people don't really look closely into the painting. All they might see is how there is a lot of pink in the print, and how Marilyn's hair is yellow. If you look even more closely into the painting, you see how there is yellow in Marilyns right eye, just around the eye ball. Its really one of those things that you have to look closely enough, too see. Another thing that you notice, is that the color isn't "between the lines". This shows that Warhol really wanted to take color to another level, and make it move around the print. Like for instance her lips, the pink extends a little bit farther then her top lip. Also on her mole on her right side of her face, it looks like the color isn't calibrated with the details with her face. But at the same time, Warhol highlights her eyes in a amazing yet unusual way. Warhol makes the pink look like eye shadow, making the person look at her eyes, and how he really highlighted them. The time when Andy Warhol painted/printed this art, was after Monroes death. He printed about 2,000 paintings, all of her face, in different color schemes, rotations, and anything possible. I think that Warhol made this painting to show us that its okay to go out of the lines, like in this painting, he wasn't afraid to go out side of the lines for the painting. He didn't care if the pink went over Monroes teeth, or a bit farther then her lip. He wanted to make a point, and show his passion ever since he was a kid.
This piece of art makes me think about how everyone now is all copying one another, and aren't really expressing themselves. If someone was to come to school in something from the 50's, people would think that person isn't normal. But in this piece of art, Warhol showed how paint, and our lives are similar, in which we can both control where we want to put it, and how we want to use it. We can do whatever we want with the colors of our life, and there isn't a person who is gonna be able to change that.
